In my heart, and in my cart. And other things.

I’m curious. What’s on your Every Damn Day list?

Things you do every day, whether they’re things you intentionally do every day, or just things you find yourself repeating daily. I’ve read once, or maybe a hundred times, that the secret of your destiny is revealed in your daily habits, and I guess I’m hoping healthy teeth are in my future so I brush my teeth, every damn day. I read my horoscope every day too, but I’m quite so certain where that will lead me.

Assuming the basics (brush my teeth, eat dinner, etc), here’s my every damn day list -

  • Drink coffee and play the daily Wordle and mini-crossword puzzle. I use this to gauge if I’m firing on all cylinders. It’s going to be a rough day if I can’t solve these suckers.

  • Read the aforementioned horoscope. Usually shrug at the vagueness of it all, but occasionally I am illuminated.

  • Wake up early to write. I’m proud of this one, and fairly consistent. Maybe once every six months, a hangover will keep me in bed longer, but I’m usually up around 5am for an hour of quiet writing.

  • Vacuum and dust mop the kitchen. Somehow the whole house feels cleaner if keep my kitchen picked up, so this is just part of the daily chores.

  • Wear mascara. I’m vapid and this makes me feel put together with very low time commitment involved.

I also try to remember to take vitamins and get the arbitrary 10,000 steps in, but otherwise I’m generally floating through my day, winging it. What’s on your EDD list?

September is the best, right?

It’s such a sleeper month, imo. I live in a tourist trap on Lake Michigan, so June, July and August floods the place with people, which is great and I really do love the energy, but in September, everyone starts heading home. Weather is still great, but school is back in sesh, and the mornings are brisk and the snowbirds start making their treks back to Florida. The place empties out, so there’s room on the beach, and the lines aren’t quite so long for ice cream. Ying and yang, you know?

Summers on the calendar until the end of the month, but I do start getting shifting into fall and it just feels good. Sweatshirts in the morning, shorts in the afternoon. The season is a short one, but it’s great.

In my heart, in my cart

+LuckyBananaNugget. With a name like that, how can one resist? I have never been to Italy, but this Italian Summer charm necklace may just do the trick. Lol at the stubbed out cigarette.

+Bong Water Nalgene Bottle. Mark my words, Nalgene is coming back. It has to. It’s next on the early millennium replay list.

+LL Bean Retro Jacket. Are we ready to talk about outerwear? I’m not, but for the right retro stripe, I can be talked into it.

+ I live in my Sally Hansen Tidal Wave polish, but I live for long lasting gel nails that dry in seconds, so I found a very similar color in a gel version.

Other things

+Adopting this whole dialogue as my mantra.

Currently Reading: Happy-Go-Lucky by David Sedaris. It’s his COVID book and he’s as flippant and acerbic as usual, which I deeply enjoy and laugh at a lot.

Got these Adidas socks to disguise my millennial status, as if the botox in my forehead and squinting at my screen doesn’t absolutely give me away. Can you believe I don’t EVER get carded for booze anymore? Hurtful.

Have you watched Only Murders in the Building? The plot looks so good this season, but I’m restraining myself until October when I can binge the entire thing in a weekend. This show is such a gift, I look forward to it every fall and I’m so excited about the cast this year! They really do get all the celebs, don’t they?

Related: They already got the green light for season 5 next year.

PS

+I’m a little more consistent over on Substack. If you like what you see, get more of it over here.

+I’m embarrassingly lazy about my skincare, but these 3 things get the job done.

+2 sentence book reviews.
