Weekend Musings | August 4, 2024
In my heart, and in my cart. And other things.
Man, did July get away from me or what. It’s the most cliche thing in the world to say that time flies faster the older we get, but GD if it isn’t true. I honestly feel like just a single eye-blink ago, it was May. Now we’re deep in the dog days.
Just was largely business as usual. I worked, did the dishes, kept up on the laundry, etc. I also got older, got buzzed in various boats (the kayak was my favorite) and read a bunch of books.
I usually start getting frantic in August about the end of summer, and spastically fill every free minute with summer things. I really need to get my fill now, otherwise September will come like a hard punch, but honestly? This year feels different and I know exactly why. First, I’ve been avoiding Target. At least the physical store. Their seasonal space is filled with back-to-school stuff and at least for me and my kids, that’s a full month away. I don’t need to feel rushed, so I’m just avoiding it. Secondly, I unfollowed a lot of the influencers that make loving fall their entire personality. Not forever, but for right now, it’s just not the content I need.
And that’s it! It’s incredible how much that’s helped me. I’m kind of embarrassed how affected I am by IG and all the premature fall content, but having muted it for now, I realize that it really is what makes August feel so….rushed? IDK, but I’m enjoying keeping what I consume all summer based for now.
How was your July?
+Deep into labeled hat culture.
When I was in high school, t-shirts with various “labels” was such a thing, We all had a shirt that said “hottie” or “blonde” or something equally dumb. No regrets because it was an era, but I strongly prefer this new fad of announcing our food preferences to strangers. BAGEL bish. I like them.
In my heart, in my cart:
+First, let’s begin with the real MVP, Target Ribbed Tanks. I am not being dramatic when I say I wear one every single day. They come in a whole library of colors and go with everything. On a bad day, they’re $8. But today is a good day, so they’re $6. In my experience, cost per wear after a single week is .01 cent.
+Sally Hansen Miracle Gel in Tidal Wave. Okay, time but buckle the fuck up, because I will not stop talking about this color for at least a month. I bought it on a whim, and it’s officially on every single digit. It’s not actually gel, so that’s a misnomer, and no UV light is needed, but it dries pretty quickly and so far, the lasting power is decent. But the color - THE COLOR - is so supreme, I’d deal with minor inconveniences if I had to.
+Isle of Paradise Self Tanning Drops. I am so allegiant to wearing sunscreen on my face, that it is officially a different color from the rest of my body. Enter these little drops that you just plop plop plop into your moisturizer. It’s evening things up nicely.
+Bubble Letter Necklace. Kind of want one after seeing them, you know, everywhere.
Other things -
It’s still summer….but I did start a Fall Style pin board just in case I see something I need to remember.
Please enjoy: this Jim Carrey Bachelorette.
Currently Reading: Tom Lake by Ann Patchett. When exactly does this speed up? I’m concerned it has been overhyped. TBH, I read The Dutch House and thought it was boring, and I know it’s beloved, but may AP just isn’t for me.
Currently Watching (because recently read): Apples Never Fall. The book was somewhat anticlimactic in the end (big build up, and then….this is the climax? Okay). But good enough that I wanted to watch the Peacock Series, which I’m enjoying.
Next on the list: The Decameron on Netflix . This is either going to be really great or really dumb, and I am down to find out which is true.
