In my heart and in my cart + other things

In My Heart -

I’m kind of embarrassed to admit this, but I’m in a bit of a rut. Go to work, come home, make dinner, clean up dinner, crash on the couch. Do it again tomorrow. In some ways, it’s just the season of life I’m in, and I try to self-sooth by reminding myself that nothing is forever. When I had little babies, if only I could have seen the light at the end of the tunnel! They don’t wake up all night long forever. They don’t cling to me forever. There were haggard days then, when I looked at myself not recognizing the girl in the mirror, wondering - is this my life now?

And to some extent, yes. But what I couldn’t see then, is that it was a season. A looooong season, but now we all sleep at night. There’s new battles, but I’ve learned that everything is a phase. I try to be mindful of that now that I’m feeling what seems like crushing monotony.

On some scroll-fest this week, I stumbled on this reel from Claudiaravioli. She talks about the woman she aspires to be, and immediately adopting those characteristics. I am inspired! I want to really dig into this as an exercise, but in the meantime, I’ve considered the qualities of the “new me” that I’d like to become and how I can adopt those mentalities ASAP.

  • New me doesn’t chew her nails. She would never!

  • When new me sees the tracking for her new table is delayed, she doesn’t freak out. She knows it’ll still arrive! New me doesn’t flip out over things outside of her control.

  • New me pauses when she meets an obstacle. She problem solves and thinks of a different solution.

  • New me focuses on her end goals, chipping away at them diligently, and she isn’t discouraged when she doesn’t have immediate gratification.

I guess I could go on and on, but just saying those things to myself helps redirect my emotional responses. The table tracking one is real. I specifically ordered a new piece of furniture to arrive on a day off of work so I’d have plenty of time to install it. FedEx put it out for delivery and then randomly send it back to the freight hub. “New me can’t control this,” I thought. And so, new me isn’t worried. Fine! It’ll get here tomorrow!

What qualities do you want to embody? Can you coach yourself into becoming them?

In My Cart -

Abercrombie is having a nice sale this weekend. I mentioned over on IG how much I love that it feels like they’ve grown up with me. I was the target demographic in the early 00’s with their low-rise flares and graphic tees, and I’m the target demographic now, in mom jeans and striped rugby polos. I really like these jeans. + this cable knit crew sweater (powder blue or red for me!)

The new table I just ordered. It’s for my home office. I need more space than my desk gives me, so I bought a whole ass dining table. Room for everything!

You know I’m becoming increasingly allegiant to Old Navy. This midi-shirt dress is perfect for spring/summer in the office. Comfortable + looks suspiciously professional. Also interested in these linen pants that come in a billion colors. I’d definitely get a matching top.

Urban Outfitters has a nice BOGO 50% off sale this weekend. I have this hat, this cheeky tee, and these socks in my cart.

I bought these wireless lamps last summer for evenings on the patio, but they came in handy this week when our power went out during a windstorm. My kids were positively charmed, walking around the house like they were a torch - haha! I’ll be diligent about keeping them charged now.

Other Things -

Opening Credits of The White Lotus Season 1

This week, I rewatched White Lotus season 1 in preparation for season 3 being released next week. It’s my favorite show right now and I’m so excited to check back in!

Speaking of rewatches, millennial parents, this one is for you: Richie Rich is on Netflix and it’s a great family movie. So nostalgic and wholesome! My 8-year old loved it (although he was confused why everyone was calling Kevin McCallister Richie).

Ever wonder how much of your favorite caffeinated bev you can enjoy before you die? Look no further than the Caffeine Calculator to determine your lethal dose. But fear not - you can drink a bunch before you actually die.

Obligatory weekend fun on deck: ice skating!
