In my heart and in my cart + other things

In my heart -

Last year, I instituted a little thing I call obligatory weekend fun, which is making at least one plan for the weekend - that’s it! Nothing fancy. Maybe we see a movie, or drop by the library. Whatever. But if I don't do this, I'll perch up on the couch for 48 hours, oscillating between guilt for not doing anything, and telling myself I deserve this break. And then, roughly around 5pm on Sunday night, I’ll get anxious and wonder where the heck my weekend went. And while it's still early enough in the season that I'm comfortably in my winter cozy nest, give it a few weeks and I will transition into a FTS attitude, making a lost weekend send me deep into despair. This is when the season depression sets in and I just become permanently irritable until the sun comes out again.

So that was an unnecessarily longwinded way to say: I'm buzzing out today to grab coffee and donuts, and to take a walk down to the beach, and maybe I’ll stop for lunch somewhere and if one of those weird junk stores along the way looks especially appealing, I'll stop there too.

Side note: it’s come up a lot this week, by accident really, but I’m rallying the troops in celebration of big kids. That paragraph above is only doable because my days of packing snacks and a diaper bag and not forgetting the stroller and chancing someone crying the whole time - are over. We’ve reached an age in which my kids can be people in public and we can enjoy each other’s company and I’m not in caretaker mode quite as often. It’s nice! But I’m also saying this largely to soothe myself. There’s so much good in every phase, but I do sometimes wince at the pictures of my kids as babies. Curled up on my chest. There’s a season for everything. Might as well enjoy the one we’re in.

My approach to the winter season as well. We’re here. It’s snowing. Might as well try to enjoy it!

In My Cart -

+Kate Spade is running a Winter Weekend sale, with an additional 40% off marked down prices. In my opinion, KS is the go-to for whimsical luxury. A little off kilter, but also a little bit boujee. All my picks are here.

+Ambitious and optimistic for an early spring, I picked up these sneakers in green and white. Can’t wait for the snow to melt so I can start wearing them!

+Related: I also swear by these basics. A good price, a decent shoe. Can’t beat an all white pair.

+An easy way to zjush up a basic cup of coffee? Froth the cream. I will not fuck with a handheld contraption, particularly because this one is $30 and whips up creamer in less time than it takes to make a decent cup of coffee.

+Look, I know everyone is tired of hearing me go on and on about these pull on dress pants from Old Navy, but I would be remiss if I didn’t tell you that they’re marked down to $29 this weekend.

+That after Christmas slump must be real slumpy, because the entire internet is on sale! Highlights include Farm Rio - their sale section is very epic currently. And Baublebar, to whom I’m so loyal. How about 40% of everything at Old Navy! And finally, 30% off active wear at Target today.

Other Things -

+On my to-be-read list, based on title alone.

+I mean, the second - the SECOND - dry January is over, it's on for me and this cocktail recipe

+Haha. I am his mother.

+YIKES. Are the foods in your cart ultra-processed? Somehow a fun, yet illuminating look at your grocery shopping habits. (5/8 of my picks were UPFs!)

+Haha. This made me laugh and laugh and laugh.
