In my heart and in my cart. And other things.
In my heart -
Every morning, when my kids wake up - first of all, I have plenty of warning. They all must hop out of bed with both feet, because I'll hear a tell-tale "thunk" and then a few minutes later, a slow shuffle down the stairs.
No matter what I'm doing, I always stop, get up, and pull them into my arms for a snuggle. Big as they are, I'll lift them up like a baby, and they’'ll wrap their legs around my body, burying their face in my neck. We talk about how they slept and if they had any dreams. All in all, it lasts about five minutes and then I go back to drinking coffee or reading or whatever, while they settle on the couch to watch a cartoon.
If I had a parenting rulebook, I'd put this rule in sentence one on the very first page. Things are going to fall apart from this point on. Those kids are going to make me bonkers, we're going to debate the most inane things all day long and I'm definitely going to lose my patience. But when they wake up, GD-it, they know how happy I am to see them.
That's all I got - what's your parenting rules?
In my cart -
Was the entire freaking internet on sale this week? Yes it was. Buckle up because Q4 is here and corporates got quotas to hit!
+Everything I Buy Anyway from Amazon - Big Deal Days
+Everything I Buy Anyway from Target - Cartwheel Week.
+What I actually bought: a Drift Air Freshener refill (the best! Get the Teak scent - I promise you will not regret it). A full-size bottle of the Color Wow Dream Coat because the hype is legit. I preordered Stanley Tucci’s new book, Everything I Ate in a Year. A couple more Vanilla Chai candles from Target that I bought on impulse and love so much, I will buy out their entire stock if possible. A new toilet paper roll holder (tres boring!) and a set of air purifiers as we head into “closed door and window season” that will kick up more dust than a sandstorm.
+After reading some surprisingly good reviews of the Lemme Sleep gummies, I invested in a 3 month sub. One reviewer commented that it works so well, they can’t believe it’s OTC, which is all I needed to hear.
+Factory J Crew New Arrivals: Love these wide leg jeans that I’m not sure I can actually pull off, but I definitely into the trend. And this sweater-polo in the reflex blue color that I’ve made my entire personality recently.
+Impulse buying these halloween skittles. Shriekers they are called and boy, is that name apt. PS remember Warheads? The trauma I’ve delighted in putting my taste buds through since childhood!
Other Things -
+Our town had a small fall festival this weekend and it was all very Stars Hollow-y. A clown band parade, shuffling into the single coffee shop and of course, bumping into everyone we know, etc. The highlight is the annual pumpkin drop, in which the entire freaking town gathers around an old donated beater of a car, while a crane lifts a giant pumpkin several feet into the air. There’s a countdown, in which we’re all momentarily reminded that despite our differences, demolishing a car will bring us all together. And then boom! The pumpkin drops, crushing the car below and sending pumpkin guts into a 10’ aerial and the crowd cheers. It’s the most wholesome reminder that our commonalities far outweigh our differences, you know?
+Manifesting for 2024 - I mean this is just delightful. Seriously, try it and treat yourself to warm, happy feelings.
+What is going on in Utah? Because the weirdest stuff usually comes from there.
