In my heart and in my cart. And other things.

In my heart -

Last night, I went out for dinner and drinks with some girlfriends and one them, knowing my propensity to hate winter, asked me how I’m doing after the time change. Daylight Savings, I mean. “It’s been so dark,” she said as if I needed a reminder. Not just with earlier sunsetting, but also dismal gray weather. It was a generous ask, but can I just tell you that I’m doing a-okay? And nobody is more surprised than I am? It’s lamp season, baby. Ambient light season. Candles and soft jazz while I cook dinner under low lighting season. I made soup twice this week, with big plans for broccoli cheese this afternoon. I don’t know - I’m just leaning into it and I’m going to for as long as I can. Winter will come and get me sometime in January or February, but for now, all this coziness feels good.

As a note, if I haven’t recommend it before, I need to now. A year or so ago, I read Wintering by Katherine May, and it changed my perspective on the cold seasons, reminding me the value of winter and the season of rest. Look, if plants and animals power down, maybe humans should too.

Anyway, walking back to my car after dinner last night, I saw the first Christmas lights of the season. What a joy! I think I’m going to be leaning into an early holiday season as well. It just feels right.

In other news, I got a haircut on a complete whim last week. Friday morning was normal until the voice in my head, that speaks without checks or balances, it seems, suggested a spontaneous haircut. Three hours later, I was perched up in a chair with a hairdressers cape around my neck, piles of hair on the floor around me. Am I impulsive? I guess so. But no regrets! I’ve been quite pleased all week with the chop-chop.

In my cart -

+Oh I am so hopeful this works out the way I am imagining it! I think I found my new work uniform at Old Navy. This polo sweater + this pair of pull-on wide leg dress pants. Elite!

+I love this cheese calendar for 2025.

+This book is on my Christmas wishlist.

+At presstime, the Sephora sale is going strong. I restocked a few of my daily drivers, but I am particularly excited for a few new goodies, like this Fenty Hand Mask, and the Biscotti and Espresso Glossier Balm Dot Com duo.

+My favorite leggings are $25 at Target. Please trust me.

+Another (new) favorite: Built Bars. I like the puffs, either coconut or mint, fresh from the freezer. Tastes like a candy bar. Has nominal sugar and a ton of protein. Sounds like witchcraft, tbh.

Other things -

Russos Italian Tanger Outlets Byron Center Michigan

+I have resolved many times to take myself out for solo sit down lunch - doesn’t it sound positively indulgent? I remember when I was younger, the idea of sitting alone was a nightmare, but now? Bliss. Anyway,I had an opportunity last weekend and the experience was as elite as I expected. Will be scheduling these more intentionally moving forward.

+I love and am cosigned 100% on this sentiment I keep seeing on IG.

+I am apparently a librocubicularist.

+Related: currently reading.

+I was not expecting this, but Stanley Tucci has begun to fill a hole that was left behind by Anthony Bourdain. I was barely cognitive of him before I read Taste, but that was akin to Bourdain’s Kitchen Confidential to me. It was my introduction. I just watched the trailer for his new movie, Conclave, and recently ordered What I Ate. All the while consuming his Finding Italy show. It’s going to be a very Tucci Q4 around here.
