Beauty Reviews | Some New-to-Me Products I’ve Tried Recently

I used to be able to hop out of bed, swipe on some mascara and look objectively good. Of course, I didn’t appreciate it or even really realize it at that time, but now that I have to put in effort and hunt down good products, I’m aware of what I was not then. I also try to remember that 10 or so years down the road, I’ll wish for something I take for granted today and it makes me humble.

Perspective!

1 - Color Wow Dream Coat // She’s making her rounds on social media, but it’s the real deal. The directive is clear: absolutely drench your hair in this stuff, followed by a blow-dry with tension (i.e. a round brush or similar) - the last bit is key. I finish with a flat iron to seal it in and then marvel at the shine. I’m surprised too, that I can apply so much product, and my hair doesn’t feel the least bit gunky. It’s a true hero product.

2 - Kulfi Zari Eyes Cream Eye Shadow // I have Plum Pataka which is a warm maroon shade with flecks (I mean, the slightest of flecks) of silver. I do a light swipe on office days, but it’s deeply pigmented and could be built up to a serious smoky eye. The best is how truly crease free it is. So many cream and stick shadows wind up collecting in the creases of my lid, but this stays put all day long. I am planning to grab a couple other shades when it comes back in stock.

3 - Urban Decay All Nighter Dewy Setting Spray // All Nighter is a tried and true, I know that, but it dries somewhat matte and my face is dry and patchy even in the humid summer months. The Dewy version sets my make-up as ruthlessly as the original, but with a lightly dewy finish. I wouldn’t recommend to those with oily skin - it would almost certainly be too much shine. Ooh and it smells like watermelon and the scent is divine!

4 - Fenty Beauty Glycerin Hand Mask // It looks and feels somewhat like the old MAC photofinish primer. Almost a powder-y finish. I’m neutral about this, mostly because I find it to be quite spendy and not really better than old standbys like Nivea or Skin Food. It smells very nice and has good reviews, so this may be more of a case that I have excessively dry skin and so-so will never do the trick for me.

5 - Tower 28 Lipliner - Eyeliner - Cheek Pencil // I’m still on the hunt for a lip liner that lasts through more than one cup of coffee. This ain’t it, but I am enjoying the versatility. I also use this to add some contour to my nose, and when I’m running out the door, it’s a nice multi-tasker to drop in my bag.
