In my heart and in my cart + other things
Can I ask you your thoughts on manifestation? I always say I’m not woo-woo, but then promptly say/do the most woo-woo things. Like, I read my horoscope every morning, and when I have a particularly vivid dream, you can be sure I do a quick Google to see what it means.
I’ve recently embarked on a routine to pep talk myself every morning with some positivity. I am kind, I chant at myself. I assume good intentions. Things are always working out for me. Blah blah etc. This is all happening in the car on my commute to work in the morning, so I can chant away aloud without worrying about anyone hearing me. That goes a long way, I think. Anyway, I guess what I’m interested in is if I can say something so many times that I begin to believe my own lie.
Lent began earlier this week and I’m no Catholic, but I have fasted every year since high school. My schoolyard best friend is a Catholic and she taught me the practice. Our freshman year, she gave up Mountain Dew and this is well before either of us were making decisions like this for our health. She gave it up because she loved it and at 14, this was a real sacrifice. For Jesus! I picked it up and kept it up in the years since. Frankly, I enjoy the challenge of showing myself I can do something mildly difficult simply because I said I would. Now there’s perhaps a new chant to add to my line up: I am a woman who does what she says she will do!
Anyhow. I gave up gratuitous negative thinking for Lent this year. That’s not to say there won’t be annoying things that bum me out, but my fast is to not wallow in those thoughts and rather, to quickly follow them with something positive. I’m not gossiping or complaining. I’m being proactively positive, and quickly reminding myself of the good when I start to feel those negative thoughts creep in. Maybe I’m over sensationalizing this, but I’d like to think that this is a Lenten fast that could actually change my life.
Do you participate in Lent? If yes, what are you giving up this year?
In My Cart -
If you make a purchase via the links below, I may earn a commission at no cost to you.
+These creamy white trousers remind me of the Old Navy pull-on dress pants I have been obsessed with all winter. I love the white for spring!
+Until garage sale season kicks off, I’ve been mollifying my need to scavage for weird things by perusing Etsy shops like this one.
+I got this watch a week ago and I love it. It has one job and that’s to tell me the time. No more buzzes, beeps, or incoming call notifications and I think it looks so chic!
+Not a sexy purchase, but I have a stainless steel fridge that drives me nuts, trying to keep it smudge and fingerprint free. I picked up this Ceramic Coating Spray Kit and it’s really helped!
+Ulta kicks off their 21 Days of Beauty Sale this weekend. I’m allegiant to this SPF brand, so I’ve got my eye on the Whipped Mousse that is currently $11.
+Wearing these Chilltips press ons in That’s Amore. I trimmed them down so I can pop in my contacts without spearing my eyeball, but otherwise I am feeling very early 00’s Gwen Stefani.
Other Things -
+Got a sitter and went out for drinks and dinner last night - it was wonderful! If you’re curious, here’s a few of my favorite pit stops along M22 in northern Michigan (you can trust a local!).
+ Fascinating! The Lip Balm Effect of 2025 from Totally Recommend is an interesting read on how sales of little luxuries go up during economic turmoil. You know we’re going through it when $20 lip balm purchases are absolutely soaring.
+What’s on your wanted sign? A hilarious conversation I walked into at work a few days ago.
+I am inspired by this weekend formula by angelina
+Notes on: Spicing up March from Hannah Connolly
+Downloaded a cheerful cherry pattern from The Every Girl for my desktop image.
