March Favorites

A round up of recently enjoyed things

Every year, I tick the months of January and February off my fingers as throwaway months. We know that’s solid, full-time winter. We gotta get through them, but then we get March. And March is like a bad boyfriend, coming and going and you never know what kind of mood he’ll be in, but we know there’s some sweet with that sour. There’s always a couple surprise nice days in there and good lord, does that first warmish, sunny day feel like a big ol’ hit of whatever your favorite vice is. Onward to April, which is more nice days and boom, May. And that is how I talk myself through surviving the cold.

How was your month? Mentally, I was in a MUCH better place than February. I cried exactly zero times which is a 100% improvement! I started taking a multivitamin which I figured couldn’t hurt, but I think the biggest mindset shift was that I gave up gratuitous negativity for Lent. I try to take 10 minutes every morning and think of a handful of nice things that feel supremely lucky. A few times it’s had to be “winter is really pretty” when what I really want to say is “gahhhh! Is it snowing again?!” but once I get the momentum going, it’s easy to see the good.

There was one rough day that at the end, I just had to say “lucky I didn’t let myself wallow” and I think that’s fair too. Everyday isn’t super, but you know, we push through it.

Onward to April friends! But first, let’s talk March.

Folks, there are some affiliate links below. You’re smart, you know what this means. If you purchase, I may earn a commission at no additional cost to you.

1 - The White Lotus // The first handful of episodes were frankly boring and I wondered if this season would be a dud. I’m allegiant though, so I keep watching and - wow - things have definitely turned up. I’m not onboard with the incest storyline, but I am rabid to find out what happens. This dinner party at GreGary’s house? Bad bad bad idea folks. Also, I ask you, who would have thought that Chelsea and Rick would wind up being the most wholesome couple at the resort? Did not see that coming.

2 - What to Cook When You Don’t Feel Like Cooking by Caroline Chambers // I love to pick up cookbooks from the library to page through because I basically consider them coffee table books. Weird ingredients, beautiful photography, but usually not realistic to me and my cooking style. I grabbed this one off the shelf a couple of weeks ago and have cooked at least 5 things out of it for dinner recently. It is 10 out of 10 and I have already ordered a copy to own. Everything is so good and so easy and generally very quick.

3 - Fruity Pebbles Protein Powder // This is gratuitous because I can tell myself that I need more protein, but this stuff literally tastes like dessert and that is basically how it serves me. If you like the leftover milk at the end of a bowl of cereal, this stuff hits.

4 - Saltair Serum Body Wash // Smells tropical, but like actual tropical fruit. Not like fake orange candy, you know what I mean?

5 - Two Amazon Purchases // That are already a cost-per-wear bang for my buck. I picked up this watch because I wanted to swap my big bulky Fitbit for a chic watch that does nothing except tell me the time. No beeps, boops, or incoming call notifications, and this one is beautiful and a bargain. I also picked up a weighted vest because the internet is really on these things right now and I am highly influenceable. I got a 10lb vest and it has truly amped up my evening walks. I also wear it while puttering around my house doing chores and you should hear me huff and puff up the stairs with a basket of laundry on my hip.

6 - Staying on budget // A personal win! I’m staying strong on my resolution to keep my budget in check. Mostly it’s just being mindful about impulsive purchases, but it’s making me really aware of where my money is going. I regularly overspend on my grocery budget, but honestly I think it’s because my brain hasn’t caught up with inflation. I used to spend X amount and I think I still can, but not when eggs are literally about 10% of my weekly budget. At least gas is reasonably priced lately.

7 - Cobalt blue // Last years color obsession is continuing on into 2025. I still really love cobalt blue anything. I have this color on my tootsies and I’m just wondering if it’s too much if I wear these shoes (or these!) with those toes.

8 - Monthly Bestsellers // I guess we all have spring on the brain. This month I was not surprised at all to see so many folks took home my beloved J Crew Packable Hat or one of the many color ways of Old Navy’s linen sets. I see the “set” trend continuing through the summer, for sure! It seems like we’re all curious about this supposed Skinceuticals dupe. I picked up a bottle during the big spring sale, and so did a few of you! Everyone, report back!

PS -

Stuff I buy anyway - if the internet is going to be on sale, I’m going to participate.
